In October 2019, Dutch police discovered six siblings and their ailing father living in a secret room on a remote farm in Ruinerwold. They had been hidden away for nine years, completely cut off from the outside world. The family was found after the eldest son, 25-year-old Jan Zon van Dorsten, escaped and walked into a local bar to ask for help. The siblings, aged 18 to 25, had been waiting for the end of time and survived on vegetables and animals from a secluded garden. A 58-year-old man was arrested at the farm.
