Farmer Faces 17 Animal Neglect Charges | Belfast News

A farmer in County Down faces 17 charges of animal neglect and cruelty, accused of letting cows and sheep suffer and die under horrific conditions from late 2022 to early 2023. Inspectors found dead animals rotting alongside live ones, calves trapped or starving in trailers, and a shed piled with bones — all while vets offered help that was allegedly refused. Despite repeated warnings and police intervention, the situation worsened until a dying calf was finally euthanized. The farmer denies everything and is defending himself in court.
