Fatal Rottnest shark attack sparks AI drone proposal

A 38-year-old Perth father was fatally attacked by a four-metre great white shark while spearfishing off Rottnest Island on Saturday morning. Marine life ranger David Shanky-Baxter, who responded to the Manly shark attack earlier this year, proposes an autonomous AI-powered drone system costing approximately $20,000 that could patrol beaches and alert swimmers to shark presence without requiring human operators. The system would use artificial intelligence to identify and track sharks, hovering above them while activating alarms to warn beachgoers.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
