Faye HeavyShield Wins Top Canadian Art Award | Calgary News

Faye HeavyShield, a visionary sculptor from the Kanai Nation, just claimed Canada’s highest art honor—the Governor General’s Award—joining an elite roster of trailblazing artists like Carole Itter and Zacharias Kunuk. Already celebrated for her bold installations across Canada and internationally, including at the National Gallery, she’s set to unveil a monumental new piece spanning four floors of Glenbow Museum’s upcoming JR Shaw Centre when it reopens in 2027.
