FBI busts scammer duo posing as NFL player online for stealing at least $1.3 million
from KYW Newsradio Audio On-Demand
Imagine you think you’re dating an NFL player, only to find out he was lying and he robbed you out of thousands of dollars. That’s what federal prosecutors say happened to dozens of women with a man pretending to be a wide receiver on the San Francisco 49ers. The FBI says they've now identified an additional 35 victims who say they were scammed by Daejon Love and Taylor Chan. They had already found 26 victims with more than $1.3 million stolen from them combined. The complaint accuses Love of using social media and dating apps to build fake identities, including as a football player. He'd post photos and videos of him training decked in 49ers gear, helmet and all. Chan would then pose as Love's financial adviser, and they'd convince women to invest money with him. Prosecutors say the big scheme started in February of 2022. Love and Chan were arrested last month and charged with wire fraud. The feds are asking anyone else who was a victim of this to feel comfortable coming forward. (Photo: Getty Images)
