Fear Not the Dark (John 1:5, Isaiah 9:2)

from Haverhill Commons Church · host Matt Webel

Have you ever noticed that when it's very dark, noises sound louder? Or that it’s harder to tell what’s real and what isn’t? That’s our brain trying to keep us safe by increasing our fear. And when we say things are “dark” we don’t always mean a dark room or the darkness of night. Sometimes the whole world feels shrouded in a kind of gloomy darkness. When we find ourselves in the darkness, even if we can’t see God, God will find us. The light will come to us because God, who loves us more than we could ever imagine, will search for us and find us wherever we are. Even a small glimpse of the light of Christ calms our fears and reminds us that one day the door will open all the way, the Son will come again, and all our fears will go away forever.  Until that day, we live by the light we can see. The sun, shining on us. The Bible, encouraging us. Christmas, reminding us about Jesus. Our family and friends, loving us always and no matter what.
