from Unspoken Emotions · host Rachel Elimelech

In this powerful episode, Rachel welcomes CJ Jansen, and she shares her inspiring journey from a vibrant life as a master scuba instructor to facing the challenges of a life-altering diagnosis of myalgic encephalomyelitis (ME). Despite being 80% bed-bound and struggling with severe communication difficulties, CJ's story is one of resilience, gratitude, and the pursuit of joy amidst adversity. CJ discusses the importance of embracing vulnerability, the transformative power of community, and her three pillars for rebuilding life after hardship: gratitude, the willingness to fearlessly fail, and finding supportive connections.  KEY TAKEAWAYS Embracing Gratitude: CJ emphasizes the importance of cultivating an attitude of gratitude, even in the face of adversity. She learned to appreciate small joys in life, which helped her rebuild her emotional resilience. Fearlessly Failing: The idea of being willing to fearlessly fail is crucial for personal growth. CJ highlights that failure is not the end; rather, it is a stepping stone to learning and discovering new passions and skills. Finding Community: Building connections with others is essential for support and encouragement. CJ encourages reaching out to find your "folks" who can uplift you during challenging times, reinforcing the idea that community plays a vital role in healing. Asking for Help: CJ stresses the importance of asking for help when needed. She believes that seeking assistance is not a burden but a gift to others, as it allows them to contribute positively to your life. Living Joyously Amidst Adversity: CJ's mantra is to "choose to live joyously within the tempest of adversity." This perspective encourages individuals to find joy and purpose even when life takes unexpected turns, reminding us that strength can be found in vulnerability. BEST MOMENTS "I went from scuba diving two to four times a day to barely being able to speak two to four words." "I thought it was just a cold, a virus, a flu, something that would knock me down just like every other cold virus or flu." "I have to see my illness as a blessing. It's a curse and a blessing." "There is joy in giving. There is also joy in receiving." "Choose to live joyously within the tempest of adversity that we call life."  To connect with your host follow Me HERE: Insta: https://www.instagram.com/rachel_unspokenemotions/  TikTok: www.tiktok.com/@rachel.unspoken.em Email: [email protected] Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/rachel.elimelech   To Buy Rachel a Coffee: https://buymeacoffee.com/unspokenemotions  LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/rachel-elimelech-a07a1a46/  To join the waitlist for Rachel’s Unspoken to Unstoppable Breakthrough Programme - email [email protected] quoting reference “Breakthrough" HOST BIO Rachel Elimelech is the warm, courageous voice behind Unspoken Emotions - a podcast that gives voice to the feelings we so often keep buried. Empowered by Darkness Andrea Medina Hi, I’m Andrea Medina. Though I’m in my early 20s, the history of relational trauma in my family lineage coupled with my own father’s abuse and abandonment, has instilled in me a self-awareness and sensitivity to emotions from a young age. I was born in México and raised in Compton, a community where I didn’t have many mentors or influences that pointed me in the direction of emotional healing work. Still, I went on to publish The Energized Self: A Journey to Interconnected Healing, a book that is half memoir and half conversations with trauma survivors at the age of 22. This same year I began my public speaking journey and my master’s program to become a Marriage and Family Therapist. As I find myself rising to fulfill my soul’s calling today, I am still in the same location where conversations like the ones had in this podcast aren’t common. I’m also faced with a myriad of economic and social challenges that I know listeners will relate to. My goal is that Never Alone Infertility Morgan and Madison Never Alone is a podcast for women navigating infertility, loss, and everything in between. We’re two friends whose paths intertwined during our own walks through infertility, and we understand how isolating and overwhelming the process can be. From the uncertainty of IVF to the heartache of miscarriage and the patience required in moments of waiting, we’re here for you.Join us each week as we have real and raw conversations about the challenges and emotions of walking through infertility and loss – both from our own experiences and speaking with other women. We’re glad you’re here, and hope you feel seen, supported and most of all know that you’re never alone.
