Feb. 19: A dominant weekend at LSU

from LSU Sports Insider · host The Advocate

LSU baseball writer Koki Riley and men's basketball writer Sheldon Mickles join sports editor Perryn Keys to break down the first weekend of baseball season and the LSU men's basketball team's big upset of No. 11 South Carolina. Brought to you by Champion Wealth Strategies. Sheldon comes on to break down how the Tigers beat South Carolina — even without star Jalen Cook, and even after they had fallen behind by 16 points in the second half. It was the first road win over a Top 15 team for second-year coach Matt McMahon, and it came shortly after LSU had dropped several one- or two-possession games against Texas A&M, Georgia and at Florida. LSU hosts big, bad Kentucky at 8 p.m. Wednesday in the PMAC. Koki chimes in with takeaways from the Tigers' first three baseball games — including a 2-0 win over Central Arkansas in which five pitchers combined for a shutout, followed by a record-tying 27-5 blowout of VMI on Sunday. Koki also breaks down the pitching staff's performance, Thatcher Hurd's opening-day struggles and whether Javen Coleman will be a weekend starter moving forward. Also, Sheldon takes a moment to discuss two former LSU track stars, Mikiah Brisco and Aleia Hobbs, who finished 1-2 in the U.S. indoor championships — and how both sprinters will make a play this summer to join Sha'Carri Richardson in the 100 meters at the Paris Olympics.
