Federal Probe Into Spokane Fire Suspect | Spokane News

Federal authorities are moving to charge Aaron Farinacci, the suspect behind the August 1st Old Trails fire that destroyed over 600 homes in Spokane, with arson — potentially carrying up to 25 years or life if lives were endangered. While he already faces state charges, federal prosecutors are exploring involvement if the blaze affected federal property or interstate commerce, like rental units. The case is complicated by Farinacci’s history, including a manslaughter conviction and mental health issues, as courts evaluate his competency. With firefighters risking their lives and communities still reeling from the devastation, justice remains a top priority — and the legal battle is just beginning.
