Federal prosecutors charged 20 people in an alleged point-shaving scheme involving dozens of college basketball players from Robert Morris and other schools. Prosecutors say five “fixers” paid players to influence game outcomes, sometimes even targeting their own performances. US Attorney David Metcalf described what took place in Thursday’s news conference: The indictment names players from 17 Division I schools,. NCAA President Charlie Baker says protecting the integrity of college sports is a top priority, and investigators have already banned at least 10 players for life this year for gambling violations.
