Feedback Loop
Generic feedback gets generic results. Perks like morning teas and team lunches feel good in the moment. But one of the most effective and least expensive ways to keep people engaged and performing is regular, specific feedback that reinforces the behaviour you want to see. In this episode, Ally explains how to give feedback that actually changes behaviour, and how to ask for it yourself. You will learn: - Why feedback should focus on behaviour you have seen or heard, never on someone's personality - The research on "wise feedback": students told "I have high expectations and I know you can reach them" were twice as likely to revise their work - Why Ally does not recommend the feedback sandwich, and how it leaves people confused - The emotional bank account, and why deposits have to come before withdrawals - Why leaders need to ask for feedback from both above and below them - How good feedback prevents many courageous conversations from ever being needed The more specific you are, the more specific their improvement will be.
