to start. Hello welcome back to another episode of Broken Record. My name is Ellie. I'm your host and this week I thought it would be good to have an episode on female rage songs.
So as we are winding down the era of Broken Record we only have a couple more episodes left and I feel like this is a good way to kind of start the closing out of Broken Record. So female rage songs it's sometimes referred to as female rage, feminine rage like just that stuff and so it's this trend going on online right now with like moments in media where artists or actors or performers or whoever it's just like it's just like raw real emotions of these women who are feeling rage I guess who are like angry at the world angry at their situation whatever it may be and like it's just people highlighting the art that is created through that feeling and so I wanted to do an episode on some of my favorite female rage songs. I'm really excited to talk about it. We started with Brutal by Olivia Rodrigo.
That was the song that just played and that's such a great song to start with. It is really gets you in that kind of angry feel that was off of Olivia Rodrigo's freshman album Sauer and it was so good. I love that song so much and the next song I'm gonna play is another one of my favorite songs. It is by Billy Eilish.
It is off of her album Happier Than Ever and it is called I Didn't Change My Number. I love this song so much. It's like if you've never heard it before basically the concept of it is there was this person who Billy was talking to or dating I'm not sure but they were talking whatever and Billy stopped her falling and was like you're not good for me like I need to cut you off and she's basically saying like no I didn't change my number like I'm just avoiding you. Like I don't need to respond to you.
Like it's not because I changed my number or anything. I actually have the same number. I just don't feel like responding to you. And I love the song so much.
It makes me so happy. So yeah I'll play it now here. I didn't change my number by really Eilish. I love that song so much.
It's so good. It's so fun and I love that. Um If listening to the song you hear these like growls and like kind of dog noises and that is actually Billy Eilish's dog. I believe it's a girl.
Her name is Shark. Um but yeah I just love that she included her dog because I would too I would too. I love my dogs and if I was creating a song I would find a way to get my dogs in that song. So very fun very fun.
I love I Didn't Change My Number by Billy Eilish. It's such a good song. Um now we're gonna take a rewind in years. We're going back to 2005 I believe.
Um maybe 2006 but we were going to play a Taylor Swift song off of her debut album Taylor Swift and I'm really excited to play this song. This is one of my favorite songs from the album. It is the definition of Eminem Rage for me. It's so fun and angry and the music video is incredible as well.
I recommend watching it if you can. Um but yeah I'm okay. I'm gonna play the song now. It is called Picture to Burn by Taylor Swift.
I love that song so much. Like it just makes me want to jump around and like just have the time of my life. I think that song is so good. Picture to Burn by Taylor Swift is just incredible.
I love listening to that song. It makes me so happy. It's so catchy and she has a little country twang when she sings it and it makes me so happy. The things I would do to hear in Taylor Swift perform that song live.
It is so good. It is so good. It's so good. Um I actually just like I can't believe it.
I love that song. Um yeah the next song so okay the songs that I've been playing are brutal by Libby Rocha go Unen Change My Number, Billy Eilish Picture Burn Taylor Swift. They've all had kind of like a rocky like angst to them. Like they were a little bit more angry and this next song I'm gonna play is a little bit of sneaky angry which is pretty fun if you know the lower which I will fill you in on if you don't.
So I'm going to be playing Silver Springs by Fleetwood Mac. This is arguably my favorite Fleetwood Mac song. I think it's so good. It's so good and the story behind it makes it even better and it's just it's incredible.
It really isn't incredible. Um but so basically Stevie Max is the like lead one of the lead singers for Fleetwood Mac and there is this well actually how do I even want to explain this. So basically Billy not I was gonna say clearly on this. No Stevie Nix had a relationship with Lindsay Buckingham who is also on In Fleetwood Mac and so like she wrote this song about Lindsay Buckingham and how like he'll never get away from her and it's it's so iconic.
It's so iconic. So there's a performance of them performing this song um at a concert in 1997. I recommend watching this video because you can just see like the anger in Stevie's face and it's so iconic and funny and there's a lot of lore behind it because Stevie wrote this song about Lindsay who is also in Fleetwood Mac and they performed it which means Lindsay had to perform a song about him like not getting over Stevie and like it's it's such like the irony is there the irony is there and um I just love listening to it. There's one of the lyrics.
One of the lyrics quite literally says you'll never get away from the sound of the woman that loves you and that in itself is just powerful but it's so it's I just I just can't even believe it. I really recommend researching the Fleetwood Mac Silver Springs lore. It is so fascinating and I would have killed to be alive and like in the right demographic when this was all happening because I would make that up. I would have like just that that would have been all I could talk about um but yeah I love Silver Springs like Fleetwood Mac.
I think it's such a good song. It's very like um it's not as rocky I would say. That's not like a good way to describe it but it's not as upbeat as the previous songs I've played but it's so good I have to play it. I have to play it and Stevie next is my queen so of course we're gonna play it.
Here's Silver Springs by Fleetwood Mac. It's such a good song. It really is such a good song Silver Springs Fleetwood Mac. Incredible.
Incredible. I just love listening to it. I love listening to it and I love Stevie next and I love that she wrote this song and made her ex-performant. Um it's just so good.
It's so good. It's so good. Um yeah okay the next song I'm gonna play is called Me Without You. It's by Ash and I really love this song.
I love Ash. I've seen her in concert. She was really good. She took a hiatus from like creating slash releasing music a couple years ago and hopefully she returns at some point when she feels ready to um but yeah this was off of the her most recent album I believe and it's so good.
It's like it's basically saying like I can be myself without having you there like after a breakup like I like you become so reliant on a person but then when you're it's like finding yourself after kind of not having them for a while. I didn't explain the well but listening to the song you understand why I'm trying to get that but it's so good. It's so like just fun and you can tell the anger is there and I love when you can tell the emotions behind a song. It's really cool and really pretty and yeah I'm so excited to play this series Me Without You by Ash.
I love it while Paper Stain by the... I love that song. I love that song. I love that song.
It's so good. It's so good. And like the whole message like as I was saying earlier but did not explain well was that it's basically like like you made me so dependent on you and I felt like I couldn't live without you but then we broke up and I'm like actually doing really good. I'm thriving.
I can be myself and you need to be yourself and it's so good. It's so good. I love I love I love that song. Yeah so exciting.
Okay the next song we're going to play is called Don't Start Now by Doo Alipa. It's got a similar vibe that's just like like after post breakup I'm thriving and you can't bring me down. Basically is the gist of the song. So I'll play it now.
Here is Don't Start Now by Doo Alipa. Good song. Good song. Good song.
Good song. Yeah the last song I want to play is Myly Cyrus. It is called Flowers. Very popular song recently and I feel like it is a very good feminine or rage song basically like I can take care of myself.
Don't You the Man and yeah I love this song. I think so fun and so just like groovy. I think um yeah here's Flowers by Myly Cyrus. All right that was just Full Hours by Myly Cyrus and The Time Has Come to the end of the episode which means it is time to say thank you for turning in to this week's episode of Broken Record About Feminine Rage.
