FGCU Swimming Preview with FGCU head coach Dave Rollins

from The Big D Podcast

In this episode, FGCU swimming head coach Dave Rollins talk FGCU swimming. First, we look back at FGCU/Hungary breaststroker Petra Halmai's performance at the Tokyo Olympics. We also talk about how Tokyo's time difference affected Petra's Olympic preparation. Petra swam in the 4x100-meter Mixed Medley Relay for Hungary Then, we look back at notable performances by countries and individual athletes. We were impressed with Australia's sprinters. Coach Rollins also mentions how Australia may have benefited from less travel than most countries. Emma McKeon won seven medals, which broke the record for any female swimmer in a single Olympics. Then, we discussed the incredible duals between Australia's young star Ariarne Titmus and American star Katie Ledecky. America's Bobby Finke won the 800-meter and 1500-meter freestyle. It was amazing how Finke ended his races so fast after swimming so far. We also look at Caeleb Dressel's five gold medals, including a world record in the 100-meter butterfly. We were both touched by the emotion in Brazil's Bruno Fratus getting a bronze in the 50-meter freestyle. Finally, we preview the upcoming swimming and diving season, which begins with the UNF Invitational next Saturday in Jacksonville. Coach Rollins mentions this meet will be the first competition at the North Florida Aquatic Center. Like most coaches, Coach Rollins is focused on the next meet and not looking forward. FGCU also faces Vanderbilt, Miami, and Georgia Tech on its schedule. I also tell Rollins how one of the diving meets is in Coral Springs, near my former home in Tamarac.
