FH Classics: The Phantom of the Opera

from Film Haven Reviews · host Sawyer Gann

Welcome back to Film Haven Reviews!! This week we are introducing a new segment to the podcast I'm calling Film Haven Classics where I bring on my buddy Geoff Bretches and we discuss the film adaptations of classic novels! This week we are discussing Gaston Leroux's The Phantom of the Opera!! We focused and the 1925 silent film as well as the 2004 musical, finding that each adaptation brought its own spin and attitude the source material while also staying true to the main plot points. We also discuss the gothic themes in the story as well as its hybrid nature, transitoning into a pulp story by the end. Its a fascinating discussion so give it a listen! If you want to see more content from Geoff here are some of the places he is at! I highly recommend reading his substack! Substack:https://substack.com/@geoffbretches?utm_source=explore_sidebarInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/geoffdb_?igsh=MW11OWFhNmdhaG5yaA==
