In this opportunity I come to tell you about an adventure that was tinged with various nuances. A month before we decided to go to the town of Choroni to the feast of the birth of San Juan Bautista on June 24, this celebration brings together a large number of visitors and tourists as part of the cultural tradition that begins in the early morning of June 23 with the wake of the saint while sharing songs, drums sound, fireworks, offerings of thanksgiving between believers and devotees. On 06/24/06 in company of Antonio (cycling trainer) who accepted to be our escort on his motorcycle, we left at 6 am from our homes to head towards the complex mountain road in the Henry Pittier Park that leads to one of the most beautiful places in our state of Aragua Venezuela. This road is narrow with many curves that in some sections only allows the passage of one vehicle. @sherescolche, Yvonne, Claudia and myself took on the challenge of traveling 66 kilometers with the joy of reaching the destination to enjoy this traditional festival. The first kilometers (30 approximately), are quite demanding, we take measures to hydrate and replenish energy (snacks), in this stretch of the road we were accompanied by: Johan, Aldemaro and Manuel. After about 3 hours cycling (a little before the summit) we found a thick fog that limited us to see the landscape, it is exciting to meet these gifts of nature and know that there is very little to reach the highest point of the road, after a few minutes enjoying the cold we continued to the top reaching 1,611m above sea level. We started the descent with the cold and humidity of the road with great caution due to the traffic of vehicles, motorcycles, buses, trucks and irregularities of the pavement. We traveled about 16 kilometers on the steep road and just at the curve of the chapel of the Virgen del Carmen, a vehicle overtaking another vehicle took the road to Yvonne causing an accident in which she was injured with a strong blow to her face and in various parts of her body. I still hear in my ears the scream: BE CAREFUL! and the sound of the blow, when I looked at her I saw her on the ground...I felt my heart beating very strongly, I was afraid for what would have happened to our companion. Antonio was behind her and immediately helped her, Sheryl, Claudia and I were very nervous, the people from the other cars came to help her while she was reacting, the blow on her left cheekbone was impressive, but the ice we put on it acted favorably.... We proposed to take her to the hospital, but she calmed down and after a while, she told us that she would arrive at the village rolling, she felt able to continue, a little further on it began to rain heavily, we continued moving forward until we reached the goal of arriving at the village decorated with flowers, vibrant colors, music and people celebrating. Claudia's husband was waiting for us and Richard with hydration and a delicious lunch (fried fish with tostones and salad), then we went to the inn to change and store the bikes. On the way back, we decided to climb 120 steps up to the cross, it is a viewpoint near the beach whose images of the sea and the town are very beautiful, but when we were half way up it started to rain again, but we continued and we had to stay with wet clothes while we walked through the streets accompanying and dancing to the saint. We went to the square, where the people were concentrated sharing and dancing, when we heard a loud noise, it turns out that due to the rain a large tree fell on a truck that was parked. This day of intense emotions ended with a relaxing break to get up to prepare a delicious breakfast and return to the city... The bruise on Yvonne's cheekbone did not prevent her from enjoying the party. This adventure has been quite significant, every day of our lives there are unexpected events, the most important thing is the attitude towards them, the textual words of Yvonne after dressing elegantly, putting on her glasses and a smile: "Let nothing damage the moment" tremendous lesson.
