Fighting for Equality and Maternal Health with BLM NH

from One Quick Thing: A Podcast for People Who Care a Lot

Join Emily and Marissa as they interview Camilla Thompson, Black Maternal Health Coordinator for Black Lives Matter NH. In 2022, she started her Reproductive Justice advocacy after the overturn of Roe v Wade while pregnant, which ignited a power in her. Since 2022, Camilla has been an abortion doula for Reproductive Freedom Fund of NH and currently serves as their Board President. In 2024, she experienced her 4th C-section which was extremely traumatic after not receiving the right amount of pain meds. She quickly fell into the statistic of Black women being 2-3x more likely to experience death or a pregnancy related complication, and has since made it her mission to educate about the differences that Black birthing people may experience. Camilla is currently in training to be a birth doula and hopes to continue with her plans to be an RN in the fall.  She is a registered Medical Assistant, a Mom of 4, and a lover of all things Beyoncé.Special thanks to Helianthus Woodworks for sharing their art with us for this episode: https://www.helianthuswoodworks.com/
