Fighting The Media

from Tech for Good Live · host Tech For Good Live

Welcome to another Tech for Good Live podcast, if you’re new here, run, run for the hills. The podcast title might sound like a lovely look at adorable technology projects doing good in the world, but more often than not, it’s actually about all the terrible stuff happening in the world. I suppose we should start every Tech for Good Live with a content warning based on the types of things we usually discuss, but our first segment this week feels pretty heavy on sexual assault, so we’re letting you know up front.  We also talk about newspapers being divisive (nothing new there) and Amnesty international are launching an Algorithmic Accountability Lab, which we’re very intrigued by. We do have a good news story to finish up with and it’s obviously about alcohol.  Fay Schofield is on hosting duties, and she’s joined by TFGL team members Greg Ashton and Tom Passmore And our special guest this week is Lou Lai, Strategist, fundraiser, marketer, charity lover. Lou is the Transformation Director at Manifesto London, Founder of FemMentored and a trustee of Blood Cancer UK. This week’s topics: Stat of the week Fewer than 60 rape cases lead to a charge in England and Wales - The Guardian But there some good progress with victims to be allowed to give video evidence Charity news of the week Stonewall are attached by major news outlets following their new diversity champions campaign - Third Sector Between 2018 and 2019 The Times wrote 158 stories on trans people - Thanks random access mEmily Tech news of the week Amnesty international's Amnesty Tech are launching an Algorithmic Accountability Lab - Twitter/ @Rasha_Abdul And they're looking for staff Find out more about Amnesty International's work with tech  And finally…  Alcohol that remove carbon from the atmosphere - Positive.News ---------------------------- Listeners, what did you think?
