Figure in the Carpet Chapter VIII

In which the narrator finds himself vexed and involuntarily exiled in Germany due to his brother’s grave illness, thus missing the arrival of his friend Corvick in England, whose literary ambitions and personal fate unfold with tragic suddenness.
