File 004: The Sodder Children — A Visual Dossier | Part One

"Your house is going up in smoke... and your children are going to be destroyed!" Christmas Eve, 1945. Fayette County, West Virginia. A fire tears through the Sodder family home, and five children — Maurice, Martha, Louis, Jennie, and Betty — never make it out. But the house doesn't just burn. It vanishes — no bones, no teeth, no trace of five lives, in a fire far too weak to erase them. This visual dossier traces George Sodder's journey from a thirteen-year-old immigrant to a self-made Appalachian businessman, the threats that shadowed his family before Christmas Eve, the twenty minutes that changed everything, and the impossible aftermath that would haunt a mother for the rest of her life. Part Two — the cover-up, the billboard, and the search that never ended — drops next Thursday. This is Bramble and Bone.
