Finally! The Foldable iPhone is Moving from Patents to Production

After years of being nothing more than a collection of patents and hopeful leaks, the foldable iPhone is finally shifting from dream to reality. Apple’s long-time partner, Foxconn, has officially entered the trial production phase for the Phonegram Fold. This is a massive milestone because it means the design is locked in and Apple is now testing the assembly lines to ensure they can handle the precision required for such a device. If everything goes smoothly during this testing phase, mass production is slated to kick off in July. While we expect an official announcement alongside the iPhone 18 Pro in 2026, you might have to wait until December of that year to actually get your hands on one. What can we expect from this folding wonder? It’s rumored to feature a 5.5-inch external screen that opens up into a 7.8-inch mini-tablet with a four-to-three aspect ratio, making it look more like a pocket-sized iPad than the elongated folding phones we see today. Apple is obsessed with making it incredibly thin, aiming for just 4.5 millimeters when unfolded, and they’ve even developed new hinge technology to make that annoying screen crease virtually invisible. However, that extreme thinness comes with some trade-offs. To keep the profile slim, Apple might ditch the telephoto lens and swap Face ID for a Touch ID sensor on the power button. It’s a bold move, but for a device this revolutionary, Apple is betting that a seamless folding experience is worth the sacrifice.
