What does it look like when a community of believers is truly, wholeheartedly devoted to something greater than themselves? Acts 2:42-47 pulls back the curtain on the earliest days of the church and shows us a picture that is both ancient and urgently relevant. These first followers were not casually committed. They were devoted to the apostles' teaching, to one another, to the breaking of bread, and to prayer. And the result was staggering. The Lord added to their number day by day. This passage invites us to ask ourselves a hard but beautiful question: what are we actually devoted to? Devotion is not a feeling. It is a pattern, a posture, a persistent attention we give to the things that matter most. When we root ourselves in the Word, press into genuine fellowship, and keep the Lord's Supper central as a proclamation of Christ's death and resurrection, we are not just maintaining religious habits. We are positioning ourselves to be used by God in ways that outlast us. The early church did not grow because they had the right strategy. They grew because they were devoted to the right things, and God honored that devotion with transformation that rippled outward into their cities and across history.
