Finding Meaning & Spirituality Beyond Religion with Britt Hartley

from Beautiful Shifts · host Lindsay & Shantil

Today Britt shares her story of being a devout member of the LDS church including being a seminary teacher, to deconstructing her beliefs and entering a stage of nihilism, to finding meaning and spirituality beyond religion, and now practicing spirituality in a tangible and beautiful way. We discuss concepts and tools she uses with her clients and topics from her new book No Nonsense Spirituality. Britt has a Master's Degree in Applied Theology with a specialization in the future of American religion. She currently works as a spiritual director on nihilism recovery, faith deconstruction, and secular spirituality.    Britt is extremely thoughtful and wise and we loved every minute of this rich conversation! Her thoughts on spirituality really resonated with us and we're excited to bring her wisdom and perspective to our podcast. Wherever Life Takes Us whereverlifetakesuss Join three best friend as they explore this beautiful world! Half Ties kwamenabrace Half-ties is a conversation series on the funny, beautiful and sometimes challenging moments that interracial couples experience being with somebody who’s culturally different from them.Hosted by creative couple Olivia & Kwamena, we listen to stories about growing up with racism and prejudice; falling in love and meeting the in-laws; navigating difficult conversations within the family and in society, and how these couples make their relationship work and what they actively choose to pass down to the next generation. C.S. Lewis's The Last Battle St. Philip's Church: Charleston, SC Come join us on Wednesday nights as we explore the riches of C.S. Lewis’s marvelous book The Last Battle, which is the last of The Chronicles of Narnia. It is a remarkable book on multiple levels and was awarded the Carnegie Medal back in the 1950s when it was first published. The Last Battle has some themes in common with The Great Divorce and That Hideous Strength that will make it an excellent follow-up to those two books, and like them, it has some remarkable resonance with things going on in today’s culture. It is a book that is both theologically rich and poignantly beautiful in its writing, and it can help equip us to live boldly for Christ in a culture that has lost its way. (Although this book is the last of The Chronicles of Narnia, it can stand on its own and it is not necessary to have read the other books for this class.)
