Finding Philosophical Meaning and Passion for Games in NieR Automata - The Grand Electric Archives

from The Forever Classic Podcast · host Forever Classic Games LLC

Obscured beneath the hum of electricity pulsing through a cathode-ray tube and slipped between several dimensional layers lies a wondrous library of digital treasures. Known as The Grand Electric Archives, this collection is cared for by a young scholar who can often be seen sorting items, directing guests, and trying to keep his large bouncing hat from flopping away. Those who visit The Grand Electric Archives are given the freedom to explore the collected pieces of media without worry of the outside world. The archive is a haven for the curious and the path to its doors is open.  Produced by Forever Classic Games LLC, The Grand Electric Archives is a podcast where our hosts take the time to focus on a single game. Usually coupled with a recent playthrough and often paired with contextual history, these episodes are dedicated to exploring games beyond the typical hype cycles that dominate most conversations around these titles.  Hosted by Alex McCumbers and Justin Wood (The Here's Johnny Podcast, DreadXP, Pride, etc) this episode is dedicated to NieR:Automata, a genre-bending third-person action game from PlatinumGames with publishing support from Square Enix. The game was directed by Yoko Taro, an infamous character in game design whose legacy also includes the Drakengard series. Works also explored as supplementary material for this episode include the anime adaptation Nier: Automata Ver1.1a as well as a collection of short stories titled Short Story Long.  Featured image courtesy of official Square Enix press kit materials.
