Fine, I'll Ask

from CLF Conversations · host Covenant Life Fellowship, Perry Sorensen, David York

🎙️ Episode Summary In this episode of CLF Conversations, Perry and Pastor Dave answer candid follow-up questions to the Shared Values series. They explore what “gospel-centered” really means, why continuationism is a shared value, how elder leadership functions, biblical submission in marriage, the realities of church planting, and how unity can be preserved in a growing church of sinners. The conversation clarifies convictions while keeping the gospel central. 🌍 Key Topics Covered What gospel-centered actually means Open-handed vs. shared convictions Biblical marriage authority Elder plurality and decision-making Church planting strategy Preserving unity amid growth 💬 Discussion Highlights Slogans don’t define faithfulness—practice does. Open-handed doesn’t mean optional. Authority in marriage and church is cruciform. Church planting requires preparation, not impulse. Unity is fragile—but worth guarding. 📖 Scripture References 1 Corinthians 2:2 Galatians 1:6 Ephesians 5:22–25 Acts 20:28 Acts 13:2 Ephesians 4:3 Philippians 2:2 📌 Takeaway Questions Is the gospel central in my life—or assumed? Do I see authority as protection or threat? Am I contributing to unity—or quietly eroding it? Do I pray for future church plants? Does my theology produce humility? 🎤 Sermon Mentioned: The Gift of Tongues https://clfroseburg.com/sermons/the-gift-of-tongues/ 🔗 Stay Connected Subscribe to CLF Conversations wherever you listen. Every church has two kinds of people. The ones nodding politely… And the ones thinking, “Okay but… what about tongues?” There’s always that moment after a sermon where someone says, “That was great.” But what they mean is, “I have seven follow-up questions and I’m not sure if I’m allowed to ask them.” So today, we’re doing something brave. We’re asking the questions everyone else is whispering in the parking lot. The ones you typed into Google at 11:47pm. The ones you almost emailed… and then didn’t. The ones that start with, “Not trying to be difficult, but…” We’ll be difficult for you. Because healthy churches aren’t afraid of questions. And good theology can survive a little awkwardness. Let’s go.
