In the upper room of John 13, while the other gospels record the bread and cup, John focuses on a towel and a basin. This message moves through the Last Supper—observing communion within the teaching—and the foot washing as Easter approaches. It notes that the devil prompted Judas but did not override his will, then turns the question on us: temptation finds the places where we fall, and only the Spirit's power overcomes it. Jesus washes even his betrayer's feet. The controlling ethic that emerges is love—a new command, modeled on the knees. The teaching warns that being known for nice facilities while failing to love sacrificially misses the point entirely, and that knowing these things makes us accountable to them.
