Finishing What Someone Else Started

Gen X came into leadership inheriting broken things — institutions shaped by downsizing culture and trust deficits, families carrying generational damage, organizations with structural problems that long predated us. The temptation in that position is to spend too much time cataloguing the origin story of the damage rather than doing the work of rebuilding. This episode is about the Nehemiah model: clear-eyed assessment without a blame spiral, and the conviction that what matters now is who's going to start rebuilding.Nehemiah 2:17–18 captures the moment Nehemiah, after a careful private survey of Jerusalem's ruins, gathers the people and names the situation plainly — then immediately pivots to mobilization. He doesn't minimize the damage and he doesn't assign fault; he names the trouble honestly and then tells them about the gracious hand of God in the work ahead.
