James Geering, a native of Bath, England, initially aspired to be a firefighter but was deterred by being informed of his color blindness during his school years. He pursued various jobs, including lifeguard and stuntman, until he moved to the US, where he successfully challenged the fire service entrance medical and spent 14 years as a firefighter/paramedic.
