First Community Church 09.08.24 Glen Miles -Sermon, On Earth As It Is In Heaven

My sermon, On Earth As It Is In Heaven, is inspired (as you probably guessed) by the Lord's Prayer and Revelation 21: 1-5a. Have you ever noticed when we pray the Lord's Prayer, we do not ask God to help us get into heaven? Instead, we ask for heaven to come down to earth so that God's will can be done today. And what is God's will? Seven hundred years before Jesus the prophet Micah described it quite well, "to do justice and to love kindness and to walk humbly with your God." That is a very good job description for you and me. We will listen to a reading from Revelation 21. You may be surprised to learn the book of Revelation picks up on the theme of justice as well. The new Jerusalem mentioned in our reading will be a place where all people are welcomed, and justice will prevail. I've particularly enjoyed working on this sermon and I am looking forward to sharing it Sunday at 9, 10, and 11!
