First day of lockdown level 1 in South Africa.

from African Dialogue · host Channel Africa

South Africans are waking up to the first day under level one lockdown, which means you're now allowed to gather in larger numbers, you have an extra day to buy alcohol and the night curfew has been extended. Last week, President Cyril Ramaphosa announced the easing of more lockdown restrictions which have been in place for almost half the year. International travel will resume next month; however, strict protocols will be in place. However, Health Minister Zweli Mkhize has warned South Africans not to be complacent; there are more than six hundred and sixty one thousand confirmed covid 19 cases and close to sixteen thousand deaths. To take the conversation further we are now joined on the line by: • Sanusha Naidoo from the Institute for Global Dialogue • Professor Sean Gossel from the University of Cape Town’s Graduate School of Business.• Dr Angelique Coetzee is the Chairperson of the South African Medical Association.
