In 66 CE, a full-scale revolt broke out, known as the First Jewish-Roman War or the Great Jewish Revolt. The uprising was initially successful, but in 70 CE, the Romans, under Titus, crushed the rebellion and destroyed the Second Temple in Jerusalem—a pivotal moment in Jewish history. This marked the end of Jerusalem as a Jewish center until modern times.
