First Light Discipline
from The Sportsman's Light · host Patrick
Serious sportsmen are first-light people. The best movement happens at dawn, and the man who sleeps in hunts a dead woods. Getting up in the dark is never comfortable — but nobody who has watched a mountain wake up regrets the alarm.Mark records that Jesus — with crowds pressing, demands mounting, a world to save — got up while it was still dark and went to a solitary place to pray. If the Son of God organized His day around first-light time with the Father, what does that say about our claim that we're too busy? The first hour shapes the rest. The man who gives God the first minutes of the day — before the phone, before the news, before the demands — walks into the day anchored instead of scrambling. It costs an alarm and some comfort. It pays in steadiness the rest of the day can't shake.Prayer:Jesus, You got up early to be with the Father — and I struggle to give God five minutes before the phone takes over. Change my mornings.Meet me at first light. Anchor my days in prayer before the world starts pulling. Amen.Challenge:For the next three mornings, treat prayer like a dawn hunt: set the alarm, get up before the household stirs, and spend the first fifteen minutes with God. No phone until you've prayed.
