August 31, 2026 First Nations Leaders Call for Greater Transparency and Equity in Parole System First Nations leaders and activists hold a news conference on Parliament Hill to express concerns over parole being granted to Brayden Bushby. Bushby was found guilty of manslaughter for the 2017 death of Indigenous woman Barbara Kentner in Thunder Bay, Ont. In 2021, Bushby was sentenced to eight years in prison. Earlier this month, he was granted full parole with conditions. The speakers call for greater transparency about how this decision was reached and greater supports for First Nations victims and families of victims of crime.
