First Run on New Champlain Parkway

Over 400 runners raced the brand-new Champlain Parkway in Burlington before it opened to cars — a one-mile community event that celebrated a decades-in-the-making road project. The race wasn’t just fun and fitness; proceeds went to Vermont’s Committee on Temporary Shelter to help homeless residents. Organizers called it a rare chance for civilians to experience the parkway before traffic hits on June 29th. Local alumni who watched it grow up from childhood were thrilled to run on it first — a perfect, heartfelt kickoff for the city’s newest road.
