Five Purposes of the Church - Evangelism

from Eastview Baptist Church Teaching Podcast · host Eastview Baptist Church

Week 1: Evangelism – "Sharing the Good News" Text: Acts 1:8 (CSB)"But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come on you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth." Thesis Statement: Evangelism is the mission of the church, empowered by the Spirit to proclaim the Gospel and make disciples everywhere. Teaching Points: The Power of the Spirit: Evangelism requires dependence on the Holy Spirit (John 16:13). The Priority of the Gospel: Proclaiming Christ’s death and resurrection (1 Corinthians 15:3-4). The Plan for the Nations: Starting locally and reaching globally (Matthew 24:14). Cross-References: Romans 1:16 – The Gospel is the power of God for salvation. 2 Corinthians 5:20 – We are Christ’s ambassadors. Evangelism (Go and make disciples) Key Verse: Matthew 28:19 – "Therefore go and make disciples of all nations." Other References: Acts 1:8 – "You will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses." Romans 10:14 – "How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in?" Mark 16:15 – "Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation." 2 Corinthians 5:20 – "We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us." 1 Peter 3:15 – "Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have." Isaiah 6:8 – "Here am I. Send me!" 1 Corinthians 9:22 – "I have become all things to all people so that by all possible means I might save some." Luke 15:7 – "There will be more rejoicing in heaven over one sinner who repents." Practical Applications: Share your testimony with someone this week. Pray for and support global missions. Build intentional relationships to share the Gospel. Gospel Realization: Jesus is the Good News we share, offering salvation to all who believe and empowering us to be His witnesses. Closing Prayer:"Lord, send us out with boldness to proclaim the Good News of Jesus Christ. Empower us by Your Spirit to be faithful witnesses, drawing others to Your saving grace. Amen."
