Five Questions to End Perfectionism

from The Page & Podium Podcast with Dr. Amanda Nell Edgar · host Page & Podium Press

Perfectionism is a species of black and white thinking that can kill your book. We've seen passionate people with amazing stories to tell stopped at every stage of the process: unable to start without the perfect plan, unable to keep going unless every chapter is perfect, unable to revise without assurance that the fix is perfect, and unable to move into the publishing process without assurance that it's perfect. Perfect is not an unachievable benchmark. It's not even a desirable one. This week we're looking at five questions to ask yourself to end your perfectionism and finish your book! Part of the process of becoming a writer is learning how to read like a writer--to see the bones of structure and past the words to what choices the author is making and why they are (or aren't) working in the interest of the story. That's why Page and Podium is excited to announce our upcoming new Memoir Method Book Club, where each month we will be reading and examining a memoir with a writer's eye to learn more about what we can apply (or avoid) in our own work. 📅 New videos every Tuesday - subscribe and never miss an update!
