Five Years Post Covid-19 Pandemic, Girls Rock! on Giving Tuesday and Rotting DVDs

from Spanning The State

Today marks the 5th year since the World Health Organization declared the novel coronavirus pandemic. Kristin and Brian discuss the aftermath of the global pandemic and the lack of conversation and mourning surrounding the event that took over seven million lives worldwide. They discuss the lack of memorials dedicated to the event, the on-going controversial debate about vaccines, and where the United States are now on a global health after terminating funding for vaccine research in the time of several varying viruses, flus and resurgence of once “eradicated” diseases like the measles and more. Later Executive Director Mary Joy Hickey of Girls Rock! An organization helps foster Independent thinking, builds positive self-esteem and bridges cultural and social divides through music education and performance. Hickey joins Giving Tuesday on Spanning the State and shares with Kristin and Brian how music plays a huge role in their work, how it all started, what’s the difference between Girls Rock and Ladies Rock! and how they are celebrating during Women’s History Month. Also, in the midst of many people going back to restocking their physical collections from books, CDs, VHS tapes, and more some have noticed their favorite DVDs are rotting. Kristin and Brian discuss the phenomenon and how Warner Bros. is helping replace some of their rotting DVDs.
