Welcome, if you will, to day three without air conditioning. The good news is that they brought out all of the stuff to replace it, the outdoor unit, the indoor unit that goes up in the attic, all the stuff, and it's in my garage. They were missing one part, and they got the one part like after four o'clock this afternoon, so they're going to be here at 6.30 in the morning to install the thing. So what do I do when it's just so hot that you can't even sleep?
I read a book that I've had laying around for a long time. We'll talk a little bit about that in the philosophy of the book. You ever try to do a great job? I mean, in your work, have you ever been a perfectionist, and you wanted everything to be just freaking perfect?
And if it wasn't, you just went back and I used to do that. I used to do that all the time. We owned a long-term pest control business. We owned a big mail order business, a big size mail order business, and you would not believe I was constantly going, go, go, go.
This isn't right. The label has to look perfectly right. This way, this has to be right. These contracts has to be right.
God, man, now that I look back. Anyway, so as I was laying there not sleeping last night, I found this book because I'm a basically a washed up former member of the National Broadcast Media. People still send me books. And the name of this book is Lean the F word out, how to aim lower, get less done, and find your happiness by Talia, I'm going to butcher this name.
I'm going to try. Argo on Desi? Desi? I don't know.
It's a little cute little book. And it is just full of all kinds of good information, of being a perfectionist. And like I say, that used to be me, and I'm not that way anymore. I just basically do not give a rat's ass.
I want it to be good enough. Good enough is all you need to do. I remember reading another book sometime ago by a guy by the name of Dan Kennedy, who was a marketing specialist. And I figured, oh, everything's going to be perfect, but no, he said, no, good enough is good enough.
Just get done what you have to get done. And when I took that philosophy on, and I changed the way that I was doing advertising, and I said, it doesn't have to be perfect. Good enough worked, you know, just good enough worked. So I, you know, oh, by the way, this is the Daily Grateful, I'm Michael Croson.
I did play the opening music. Didn't I? I'm sweating. I'm sitting in my studio sweating because there's no air conditioning.
But I'm now embracing my imperfections, and I'm turning the challenges into valuable opportunities of development. No, I'm not. I absolutely am not. I'm just, I'm letting the rough edges drag, they'll soon wear a smooth.
If you're, if you have gratitude for not being perfect, you can appreciate the journey. You know what I mean? And I, since I changed that a little bit of a philosophy in my life, I have definitely appreciated the journey. You know, just, yeah.
Let me read a little bit off the back of it, cover this book. Be a B student for once in your perfect driven life. Let's, let's something slide. It's really going to be okay.
Yeah. Yeah. Absolutely right. By the way, it's like the air conditioning went, and now I have a leak in my roof.
It's been pouring down rain for the last hour, and there's a leak in my roof. One more thing to deal with. Oh well. Let's see.
Do I need my, my readers to do this? Do I have readers in here? I don't know. I think I do.
Yes. I have readers. So I'm being imperfect, untangle your self-worth from your achievements. Make some time for that good, good, she-ot, say goodbye to burnout, and feel like yourself again.
There's so much stuff in this book. And I read the whole thing last night, and you know, pay less, cook less, you know, I feel sorry for Monday and Tuesday and Wednesday nights. I want them to have a seat at the table, and then we go and have takeout. This is the kind of stuff that is in this, and it is just, you know, you got to stop concentrating on perfection.
You just really need to stop concentrating on perfection, and be good enough, you know, get the job done, don't strive for perfection, and you're going to be fine. You're going to be calmer. I'm calmer. Like, I just saw that leak in my ceiling, and I go, oh, but then I said, oh, you know, what's the worst thing about it?
You know, your air conditioner wasn't cheap, your roof isn't going to be cheap. I'm going to get the roof repaired. You know, figure out how to get the roof repaired, I'm not going to replace it yet, and after replacing it this year sometime early next, but again, let the rough edges drag. Why can't we have a drought?
I enjoy droughts. We'll see you tomorrow.
