FLIP FLOP TRUCKERS LEGAL OR NOT? Is there a law that prohibits a truck driver from wearing certain foot attire? The simple answer is "no" it is not illegal to wear flip flops while driving a semi truck. However, if one gets into an accident and the cause is the flip flops, then you may be in trouble and pay a heavy fine. There is no legal rule on what you may and may not use but there is a rule called "rule 97", which says that any foot wear warn while driving must not hinder the driver from performing the task of driving.
