Floriana: When Utopia Turns Deadly

Send us Fan MailIn the early 1930s, a handful of settlers journeyed to the remote shores of Floreana Island, chasing freedom, reinvention, and a life beyond modern society. What they found instead was isolation, tension, and a slow unraveling of human nature under pressure. It began as an experiment. Friedrich Ritter and Dore Strauch sought to prove that true strength came from rejecting civilization. Soon after, the practical and resilient Heinz Wittmer and Margret Wittmer arrived, not for philosophy—but for survival. Then came disruption. A self-proclaimed baroness, Eloise von Wagner Bosquet, swept onto the island with ambition, control, and chaos in her wake—bringing with her a volatile dynamic that would fracture the fragile balance of life on Floreana. As rivalries deepened and trust collapsed, the island transformed from a hopeful escape into a closed world of suspicion, fear, and unanswered questions. Disappearances followed. Deaths remained unexplained. And one by one, the settlers vanished—until only two remained. This episode of Info On The Go explores the true story of Floreana: a haunting mystery where utopian dreams collided with harsh reality, and where isolation didn’t just test survival……it revealed something far darker. Being Me Is the Best Thing to Be by Judy Erb tells the story of Honey, a curious little turtle who learns that being herself is the very best thing to be.
