One of the under-appreciated benefits of Black History Month is that it gives us time to reflect on the words and deeds of our forefathers and mothers. “Words and Deeds”. That phrase is a cliche precisely because one of the primary powers of speech is to inspire action, or deeds. As we navigate through the unique beauty of our flat, wind-tossed city, we can’t help but hear echoes of our elders wisest words, and hope that there are still ears to heed, and hands to put them into action. The two exquisite performers were here in the LBK to perform “Martin and Music”. I might have also heard it on a show broadcast by Reece Air Force Base, or South Plains College, but that’s a hazy memory at best.
