Elijah Muhammad" with host Wakeel Allah and Understanding Allah TUES. 12/08 at 8pm EST call in# 646-595-4289 Dr Abdul Salaam was the personal dentist to The Honorable Elijah Muhammad, Malcolm X and Minister Louis Farrakhan. In 1956 Dr. Salaam graduated with his DDS Degree from Columbia University’s Dental School as the only Black Student IN THE ENTIRE DENTAL SCHOOL FOR 8 YEARS.  In 1957, Dr. Salaam was the first health professional to join the NOI. Known then as Dr. Leo P.X. he served as an assistant Minister to Malcolm X whenever he came to the Newark, N.J. area. He served as a Captain of the Fruit of Islam in Newark under Min. James Shabazz. In 1959 under the guidance of the Hon. Elijah Muhammad, Dr. Salaam started businesses. Dr Salaam became the first African American to import and distribute an English translation of the Holy Quran. Dr. Salaam opened a bookstore in New York City in 1969 known as Books & Things. In 1970 Dr. Salaam moved to Chicago with his dental practice to work with Elijah Muhammad, a man with whom he had dinner with almost every night for about nine months--a unique and in depth learning experience. Dr. Salaam was given the name Abdul Salaam by the Honorable Elijah Muhammad in 1973. After the departure of Elijah Muhammad in 1975, under the direction of Imam W.D. Mohammad, Dr. Salaam served as ORGANIZATION PRESIDENT.  Today Dr. Salaam is in Al'Islam in the broader sense and interacts with the immigrant Muslim community in America, the Nation of Islam and the Muslim American Society.
