Abdul Rahman Muhammad was raised in segregated Atlanta, GA in the 1930s and 40s, and joined the Army in 1950 during the Korean War. After returning to the U.S., in 1955 he heard and accepted the teachings of the Hon. Elijah Muhammad in Atlanta, and traveled to cities such as NYC, Detroit, Los Angeles before moving to NOI headquarters in Chicago in 1958. He rose up the ranks of the FOI from private soldier, lieutenant, first officer to captain and was a part of "the Honor Guard" of Temple #2 responsible for the security of the Hon. Elijah Muhammad as the Messenger traveled the country. The Messenger made Rahman National Investigator of all the Temples, and a buyer for NOI Farms in the South, where he took residence in Miami in 1961 and met and became a mentor and trainer of Muhammad Ali and brought him into the Nation of Islam, and also developed a close friendship with Min. Malcolm X and Min. Louis Farrakhan. In 1969 Hon. Elijah Muhammad made Rahman the Minister of Atlanta, GA, responsible for reforming the Black Man in the South and building the empire of the Nation of Islam in the Southern Region. Where he brought a new Temple, new School, had thousands of Muslims and established Muslim businesses all throughout the South. In 1981, Min. Abdul Rahman joined the Hon. Min. Louis Farrakhan to help successfully rebuild the Nation of Islam and the teachings of the Hon. Elijah Muhammad, and he remains steadfast as a Teacher and Reformer of His People.
