Follow Me - Fr. Gregory - August 27, 2023

Today’s Gospel reading reminds us that in order to inherit eternal life in the Kingdom of heaven we must keep the commandments out of love for Christ, sacrifice all that we have, and follow Him. As the many saints and martyrs of the Church have demonstrated, this means not only sacrificing our material possessions, but also our will and even our life.The young man in the Gospel reading was not even willing to sacrifice his material possessions to inherit eternal life - are we? Father Gregory reminds us of the high calling we Christians bear: we must not only keep God’s commandments but also deny our own will and comfort to follow Christ to the cross. These small, humanly acts are essential to the Christian life. And out of His great love, grace, and mercy, Christ accepts our acts of faithfulness, blesses them, and returns to us eternal life… "Who then can be saved?" Jesus looked at them and said to them, "With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible."
