Follow Me - P
from Pastor Jonathan’s Sermons · host jonathan althoff
Connect with me here in text… tell me where you are listening. You can memorize “Follow me” and still miss how radical it is. We tend to treat faith like a travel itinerary: show us the destination, spell out the risks, then we will decide. But Jesus reverses that logic. The Good Shepherd does not hand us the full route for our lives. He invites us into trust, and the invitation is strong enough to settle our “yes” before we know what the road holds. We unpack John 10:27 phrase by phrase, then focus on the part that is easiest to gloss over: “and they follow me.” Following can mean taking a real step into the unknown, but it can also mean staying put and learning, serving what is right in front of you, and letting discipleship do its slow work. We also name the “stranger voices” that compete for leadership in our hearts: fear, worry, exhaustion, shame after failure, old pain, and even the opinions of others. Some voices can inform us, but they cannot shepherd us. Then the lens widens from “me and Jesus” to “they follow me.” We are a flock, not a collection of lone sheep. That becomes tangible at the communion table, where bread and cup proclaim the Shepherd who gives his life, and the table itself declares belonging, welcome, and shared purpose. We come with one “yes,” and we leave ready to live the next one.
