Follow your envy plus diet letter

from The Body Love Binge - Eating Disorder Recovery Podcast · host Victoria Kleinsman

Back when I was in the thick of my dieting days, I used to envy thin people who ate pizza. I would think to myself, “How daaare you eat a whole pizza and still be thin when I’m trying sooo hard to be thin and I can’t have a pizza because it’s going to turn straight to belly fat!” Envy like this doesn’t have to be bitter or counterproductive. In fact, it can show you what you desire. Obviously, I had a desire for pizza but I wasn’t letting myself have it because I labeled pizza as bad. I was creating war between one part of myself (my body’s natural wisdom that asks for what it needs) against another part of myself (my brain’s desire to cling to rules and lose weight). It’s a losing battle. Once I finally let go of the food rules and gave myself permission to have what my body wanted, I relaxed. I got to eat pizza when I want pizza, and eat salads when I want salads. My weight stopped going up and down and finally stabilized. It started with permission to have whatever my body truly wants – and it continues by learning to feel my feelings when I want to eat when I’m not hungry. So, what are you envious of?
