Following a Father’s model of a life lived with the Father. Bob ThuneBob grew up in a small town of 800 in the middle of South Dakota. Bob’s relationship with his dad was very impactful on Bob. He learned a lot about character from his dad’s example.Though Bob’s parents were religious, they weren’t…Genuine Believers. Bob shares the story of how his dad, Harold, as an adult was led to Christ by a high school friend. The high school friend, John, living in California, had a heart for Harold to come to a genuine faith in Jesus. While in California, John got other believers in their church to start praying for Harold and an opportunity to share the Gospel with them all the way back in South Dakota. Eventually that opportunity arose and John and his wife invited Harold and his wife to their house for a bible study. When they heard the Gospel, they entered into a personal relationship with Jesus that they hadn’t experienced before. This created a dramatic change in their life.Bob’s parents felt that the church they were a part of wasn’t sharing the gospel, so they joined with a couple other families and started their own church. This decision to start a church had strong consequences in the small town, as many in their town felt betrayed. Business declined in the small hardware business they owned as many in the town boycotted the business.Watching his parents travers this journey laid the foundation for Bob to develop his own relationship with Jesus. This led Bob eventually to ministry and pastoring a church. His youngest brother John grew up to be a US Senator and the Minority Whip.Bob’s parents modeled genuinely their faith and relationship with Jesus for their family. Bob credits his parents' sincerity regarding their relationship with God, and modeling the value of a relationship with Christ for creating a recognition and desire to take ownership of his own walk with Christ. Through daily family devotions and a camp experience Bob learned how to have a quiet time, to open up the bible, study and pray. This was the foundation for his personal growth and development in his own faith with God.Bob shares Who God is, by sharing how God has shown up in his life.
