For the Time Will Come - Apostasy and the Parousia 2 Tim 4:1-6

What does 2 Timothy 4:1-6 teach about the apostasy of which Paul warned Timothy? What does he mean by the statement, "for the time will come"? Is it to be understood as a reference to modern 21st century churches, or is it rooted in the last days eschatology of Jesus Christ and the Apostles taught in Matthew 24 and the Apostolic epistles?Does the apostasy mentioned establish a yet future return and thereby negate the imminent coming of Christ to judge the living and the dead taught in the text?
