Cub Kuker Supernatural Podcast EP375 To understand the book of Job within the biblical narrative, we have to go back to the Canaanite pantheon of deities… The Canaanite pantheon, discovered through historical artifacts, represented a divine clan led by the supreme god El. Over time, this pantheon evolved, with El and Asherah prominent in earlier eras, while later years saw the ascendancy of Baal and his consorts. Notably, many Canaanite deities influenced the Greek and Roman pantheon, with parallels seen in Zeus, Aphrodite, Athena, Poseidon, and Hades. Key deities in the Canaanite pantheon included: 🐂 El Elyon (Anu) – title for ‘El’ as "God most High" or “King of gods” 🦅 Ba'al (Enlil)– god of rain, thunder, and fertility, enmity with serpents 🐍 Yam (Enki) – god of the sea, associated with serpents, knowledge  - Yahweh "Yahu-" (Marduk) – Old Testament cultural deity, “Lord of the Air” archetype of a storm god. A silver coin dating back to the 4th century BCE from the Persian province of Yehud Medinata, potentially depicting an enthroned figure on a winged wheel, is observed. Very little agreement on where this particular deity actually originated. Eventually adopts archetypes above God of the air and God in the Earth. Famously said "you should have no other gods before me" also translated as “I Am that I Am” conflicting views on issues of morality as defective within the biblical canon. - Moloch – a title for the god associated with young human ‘offerings’ - Asherah – an early Mother goddess, consort of El, mother of 70 gods - Astarte – the goddess of love and fertility - Dagon – the god of crop fertility - Kothar – the skilled god of craftsmanship and battle-making - Lotan – the seven-headed sea serpent or dragon  - Mot – the god of the underworld, afterlife, and the waterless desert The cosmological narrative involves Ba'al, the storm god, triumphing over the sterility and dryness of Mot, the god of afterlife. In Ugarit, the gods, called 'ilhm (elohim), were considered the children of El, with El as the progenitor of the universe and the consort of Asherah, described as the "mother of 70 gods."
