from FilmRise True Crime · host FilmRise True Crime

"The killer staged the scene to look like an execution. But investigators saw through the attempt—and uncovered a betrayal closer to home."On November 10, 1998, defense attorney Leslie Vaughan was found dead in his bedroom from a gunshot wound to the head. The crime scene appeared to be a hit, possibly linked to his connections with drug dealers. But inconsistencies quickly emerged. Brian Vaughan, Leslie's 16-year-old son, called 911 after a 22-minute delay, claiming he heard noises and found his father dead. His timeline didn't add up. His fingerprints were found on the broken door. Investigators discovered Brian's troubled history, including a previous arrest and a suspicious car fire. In January 2000, he was tried as an adult and found guilty of his father's murder. A staged crime scene couldn't hide the truth.
