Forever [1987] (Cover/Studio/2016Remaster)

from Kenny Peters SoundCloud Feed · host Kenny Peters

This is the very first song I ever sang in front of a crowd. I believe I was 21 or 22 in this recording. It's somewhat of a funny, but touching story, but has 2 parts... and two different crowds. The first time I ventured out to try to sing in front of a crowd was at The Old Plantation on Cedar Springs in Oak Lawn area of Dallas. I had been going to the bars a long time by that point, and knew a lot of the drag queens, and knew of the amateur shows...I finally got up the nerve to ask Michael, the organizer, if I could just sing live instead of having to think about trying to do drag, because believe me, no one would have wanted to see me try to do that... he said "Sure, why not?"...so I got up the nerve to try...and this was the song I chose. At that time, tracks didn't really exist because karaoke didn't exist in the USA, so I sang over the record. First time out of the bat, I won the contest...and came back the next week and placed 2nd. I ended up being a show regular within about 6 months. It was great. Within a few years I moved out of the gay community and into more mainstream clubs by using tracks and doing some theater projects..but this song also led me to my first real romance AND my second real unreachable infatuation (separate people)...but such is life! Wonderful stories that remain with me today. This was a "signature song" for sure for sure for me for many years. Found on the "lost drive", 3/2016
